Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to make and fit my own up-stand to fit your skylights?

No, our skylights come with the up-stand built in as standard.

What are your up-stands made from?

GRP (fibreglass).

Do you have a guarantee for your skylights?

Yes, we have a 10-year guarantee for the glass and a 20-year guarantee for the up-stands and the bond to glass.

Can you make any size skylight?

We can make bespoke sizes of our skylights, but there is a maximum size for each style (see the relevant skylight page for more details).

How long will it take to receive my skylight from ordering it?

Bespoke skylights can take normally between 10-14 working days plus shipping time to get to you (see our delivery page for estimated delivery times).

Can you do triple glazed glass on all your skylights?

No, we can only offer triple glazing on our flat skylights, as the design of the up-stands of the lantern and pyramid do not allow this option.

What type of glass is fitted in your skylights and what is their spec?

As standard, we fit 4mm to 6mm toughened double glazed safety glass, with neutral plus sealed argon filled units (see our Glass Specifications page).

How do I order your skylights?

You can order standard sizes online, for custom sizes - or just because you want to speak with a human - call or email us using the details on our Get A Quote page.

What forms of payment do you accept?

We accept bank transfer, PayPal, Cheque, Cash or Credit/Debit Card.

What’s the difference between a flat roof skylight and a pyramid/lantern?

All Ascot Skylights are made to our same high specification regarding glazing and upstands. The flat roof skylights are just 10cm high, and let in light, mainly from above. They are lighter in weight and are the most cost-effective solution to letting in light. The low profile means they are discrete, and will not significantly affect the skyline view of your property. They also conform to most local authority’s planning permission requirements. Lanterns and pyramids can dramatically enhance the appearance of a new build or renovation project and will flood your room with light. They will normally be visible externally and lend charm to a flat roof situation.

What are the benefits of a GRP upstand for my skylight?

Our 100mm GRP upstands are constructed from moulded glass reinforced fibre, which has a thermally insulated polyurethane core. This means they are durable, with a long life expectancy, strong, yet lightweight. The GRP upstands’ interior can be lightly sanded and painted with gloss paint, and as such can be colour coordinated to match the room’s decor.

How do I “measure up” for my new skylight?

Answer. Our skylights are constructed based on the internal dimensions; as such the opening for the skylight needs to be too (see our Installation page).

I would like a coloured/self-cleaning/triple skylight, can you help?

our GRP upstands can be Additionally, we can offer blue tinted, self-cleaning and/or triple glazing as options to the majority of our skylights (for a small extra charge) and are happy to quote you for these. coloured (again, for an extra charge) to suit your colour scheme, and can subsequently be repainted, by sanding it down and glossing.

I live locally, can I collect my skylights?

Yes, we are open every day from 8am to 5pm except Sunday so collection from our workshop is always an option. This is why we charge separately for delivery. There is no charge for collection, but it must be by prior appointment.

I need a skylight urgently, how quickly can you deliver?

If our skylight is in stock, we can normally deliver with 48 hours, or you are welcome to collect from our workshop (see above). For styles that aren't in stock, these usually take 10-14 working days to make due to the wait for glass supplies.

Do I need planning permission for my new skylight?

Although normally not required, this will vary from Local Authority to Local Authority, so we strongly advise you (if in doubt) to check before placing your order. (see our planning permission page).
